Sisters & Brothers,

The Union is pleased to announce a new service that will be available to our members beginning on August 1st at no cost to our members.  The Union has added Guardian Nurses Mobile Care Coordinator services to our current medical plan.  The Union will now have a full-time nurse that will be available to all of our members and dependents to help them navigate through healthcare issues.  This nurse will be available to assist our members in a variety of ways moving forward including, but not limited to the following:

  • Visit you at home or in the hospital to assess your care needs.
  • Go with you to see doctors, to ask questions and get answers.
  • Be your Guide, coach and advocate for any healthcare issues.
  • Make appointments so you can be seen as quickly as possible.
  • Identify Providers for all care needs and second opinions.
  • Assist you in getting you the things you need, such as healthcare equipment as covered by our medical plan.
  • Provide support regarding your treatments or surgery decisions.
  • Explain a new diagnosis, to help you make informed decisions.

The Union fought hard, for a number of years, to obtain these services and we are now fortunate enough to have them for membership.  There will be a mailer coming to your home explaining these benefits so please take the time to read it and see if you could benefit from this service.  The Guardian Nurses flyer is also attached to this email as well.  If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to one of your medical trustees (Kevin McCafferty, Dan Peterson, Gary Holland) and we can explain this service in greater detail.

Eric is a long-time member of the Local—30+ years, to be exact. He has recently faced some serious medical conditions, and this account was created to show our love and support for Eric and his family. The Whitakers are an amazing family who have endured a great deal of stress and emotion while navigating the medical side of things. If you know or have worked with Eric, then you know he has a charismatic personality and truly cares about others. Let’s come together and show our support for this family during this time.

Brothers and Sisters,

As we stand together in this critical moment, we must prepare for every possibility, including the potential for a work stoppage. While our goal is not to strike, we are ready and willing to do whatever it takes to secure the fair treatment, wages, and working conditions we deserve. Our strength lies in our unity, and now is the time to demonstrate our commitment to one another and to our cause.

To ensure we are organized and effective, we are beginning to coordinate our picketing strategy. Attached is the Picket Duty Sign-Up Sheet, where you can select your preferred shift. We ask that all members review the schedule, choose a time that works best for you, and return the completed form to a CAT team member, shop steward, or the union office no later than Monday 17MAR2025(extension from the previous date).

A strong and visible picket line sends a powerful message not just to Merck, but to the community and beyond. It shows that we are united, determined, and unwilling to accept anything less than what we rightfully deserve. Every voice matters, and every hour spent on the line strengthens our cause.

Let’s stand firm, support one another, and make it clear: we don’t want to strike, but if we must, we will be ready.

In Solidarity,
USW 10-00086 CAT TEAM

Sisters,Brothers & Siblings,

It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of the passing of our beloved brother, Bernard Kwarteng or BK as we all called him. He was a dedicated and hardworking member of our union for many years. Throughout his time with us, he became a cherished friend, mentor, and an example of the very best qualities we strive for in our union: kindness, integrity, and unwavering support for others. There was never a time when a bad word was spoken of him—his character and spirit were beyond reproach.

As we mourn his loss, our hearts go out to his family, who are facing a difficult time. In light of this, there is a GoFundMe campaign to support them during this challenging period. Any contribution, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated and will help provide some comfort as they navigate the days ahead.

Please take a moment to visit the GoFundMe page and consider donating. Let’s come together to show our support, as we know BK would have done for each and every one of us.

Thank you for your generosity and kindness during this time of loss.

In solidarity

Sisters & Brothers,

With contract expiry approaching your negotiating committee is working towards securing you an agreement, but we need to be prepared for the possibility of a work stoppage.  Part of that preparation involves our medical/dental/prescription coverages.  We are asking anyone that needs to schedule a doctor’s appointment in the coming months to do so in March and April. We are also asking people taking prescription medications to get a 90-day supply in April so your medications will not be interrupted.  The International does have medical coverage in the event of a work stoppage. The negotiating committee is working on that currently and will have more information regarding the coverages offered in the coming weeks.  We ask everyone to continue to be engaged with your union in the coming weeks so we can secure the contract we all deserve.

In Solidarity,

Your Negotiating Committee
