Monday Morning Member Spotlight

This week we are spotlighting a long term Union member Deseree Moore and here’s her story.I’ve been a union member for 38 years now. My first affiliation with a union was in 1985 with the UAW (United Auto Workers), where I worked for Ford Motor Company. In 1997, I began working at MERCK Sharp & Dohme, and I became a member of the PACE union, which is now known as the United Steelworkers (USW). What I enjoy most about being a union member is the opportunities and benefits it provides.

Over the years, thanks to the union, I've been able to acquire new skills and advance my career through training and education programs. Some of the other benefits I've been fortunate to receive as a union member include job security, fair wages, better healthcare, and retirement options. I learned about many of these benefits when I served as a shop steward. During that time, I had the chance to meet people, become a leader, speak on behalf of my colleagues, understand policies, address disputes, and assist with grievances.

These days, I'm most passionate about my family and my health. I'm involved in my high school class reunion committee as a planner, responsible for organizing various activities and creating timelines for meetings, events, and deadlines. I recently completed the planning and organizing of my 45th class reunion!

When I'm not working, I enjoy traveling whenever I can. Staying fit and eating healthy are essential for my overall well-being. I'm also a member of the 40+ Double Dutch club. Jumping rope has become my new favorite activity, as it's a fun and effective way to incorporate physical activity into my routine.

What I enjoy the most is quality time with my family and grandchildren. We engage in playtime, cooking, baking, and family trips to create lasting memories. I get excited to watch them grow, excel in sports, perform on stage, and succeed in school.
