Monday Morning Member Spotlight

Written on 11/20/2023

This week's spotlight shines  on George Becker, an unwavering member of the Merck family since '94, currently excelling as a Support Associate in Department 207. George's tenure with the union dates back to the OCAW days, bearing witness to the transformation from PACE to the present-day USW. Marion Lightcap has been a guiding force in my journey as a new member and as a shop steward. What I truly value about the union is the profound opportunity it provides to champion what is just. I take great pride in my roles as a Shop Steward, contributing to Civil Rights Concerns, the Safety Team, and the USW Compliance Team. Guiding new members toward becoming steadfast union advocates brings me immense joy.

Away from the bustling Merck corridors, I proudly call the Olney section of Philadelphia home. Living outside of the city now I've been happily married to Tifany Becker for 7 splendid years. Tifany, also a Merck employee and USW member, was introduced to me by Tanya McDonald, another USW member, while playing on the Merck flag football team. From that point on, it's been 7 years of never-ending bliss. Together, we are blessed with our son, Bryce. My familial pride extends to my older kids—Sean, excelling in Barrier Operations Department 135, and Courtney, a dedicated teacher in the Pottsgrove school district. During my leisure, I find fulfillment coaching baseball and football, indulging in sports, attending church, and savoring precious moments with my cherished wife and family. If you see George around campus take a moment a yourself as you now a little more about George and his family.
