Monday Morning Member Spotlight

Written on 12/18/2023

This week, we'll spotlight a longstanding member in the production environment. Today, let's delve into some details about Paul McKeown.

I currently work in the Pneumovax department at Merck, where I've been a part of the biotech team for almost 25 years since June 1999. Throughout my journey at Merck, the USW has granted me the privilege of meeting exceptional union brothers and sisters who have profoundly impacted my life. Over the years, I've experienced significant milestones, including marriage, raising two children, obtaining an MBA and forming enduring relationships.

My motivation stems from my wife, Nicole, and our children, Sienna and John, who drive me to pursue and achieve our goals. Cherished memories include the Eagles road trips taken with fellow USW employees in different cities. Having worked in various areas across the plant site, I've served as a shop steward on and off for approximately 10 years, relishing the opportunity to advocate for our collective interests. I firmly believe in the power of solidarity, having witnessed its accomplishments, and understanding the destructive nature of individual selfishness.

In my leisure time, I savor family vacations, summers in Margate, and passionately follow Notre Dame Football, the Eagles, Phillies, and the 76ers. Embracing risk to achieve goals is a principle I live by, echoing the words of the labor-friendly President Teddy Roosevelt: 'Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.'"
