Monday Morning Member Spotlight

Written on 01/08/2024

This week we spotlight the Fabulous Angelena Pendleton and this is her story.

I was born and raised in Upstate New York. I earned my Biological Sciences degree at the University at Buffalo. I started my career as a Phlebotomist and Lab Tech at my hometown hospital, where I first embraced union involvement. I moved on to Merck in 2010 as a Lab Technician, and am proud to be a USW member for 14 years.

Early on I joined our Women of Steel Committee where we organize events including a yearly holiday party for children in need. Recently I attended a WOS Conference which was eye opening and empowering. We participated in a union-organizing march for UPitt employees. Being part of these events remind me how fortunate we are to be part of our USW Union.

I became a Shop Steward in 2017 in Dept 223 addressing issues in the labs and advocating for fellow union employees. I have continued in the role ever since. I take pride in this and our union because it empowers me to address workplace issues while having the support of our union. I was also in the Organizing Committee so you may remember me handing you a pretzel on one of our Unity Days.

I married the love of my life in 2010, Joshua, blessed with two beautiful girls Bree Ellen (8) and Kelsey Anna (4). We have a 10 year old black lab named Roxie. Outside of work my life revolves around God, family, and sports, particularly football, NASCAR, and UFC. I also really enjoy vacationing and spending time with my parents, siblings, nieces  and nephews.
