This week, we're delighted to introduce Steven J. Reed, a highly active and passionate member of our Local. Without further ado, let's get to know him better.
Well it’s that time again for another Monday Morning Member Spotlight and this week we have Craig Leopold on deck. A little background about me. I was born and raised in Edison, NJ and attended undergrad at Stevens Institute of Technology majoring in Chemical Biology (despite what Dave Portnoy said about “Stevens College” being a fake school in one of his pizza reviews, I can confirm it is in fact real). After undergrad, I attended Arcadia University for my Master’s in Forensic Science and later earned my MBA from Wilmington University. Prior to Merck, I worked as a lab analyst in a forensic/clinical testing lab for over 4 years before working as a contractor and supervisor in the forensic lab for AFMES down in Dover, DE. I joined Merck in August of 2020 right in the middle of Covid as a biotechnician in department 245, B12.
This week we spotlight the Fabulous Angelena Pendleton and this is her story.
This week, we shine a spotlight on the incredible journey of Matt Gallagher, whose union involvement at Merck has not only opened doors for his family but has also provided invaluable opportunities for networking and forging new connections. Through my 22 years at Merck, starting in Building 1's Print Shop and evolving into a Support Associate in Building 12, I've gained essential lessons in training, problem-solving, effective communication, and collaboration with large groups.
This week, we'll spotlight a longstanding member in the production environment. Today, let's delve into some details about Paul McKeown.
The USW Civil & Human Rights Committee extends a huge thank you to everyone who participated in the Raffle for the New Year's Eve Philadelphia Eagles Tickets. We also express our gratitude to O'Connor Law for their generous donation of the Eagles Tickets. Through this partnership, we secured enough funds to offer two USW Civil & Human Rights Scholarships next year, directly benefiting the children of our members. Without further ado, let's announce the winners. The 1st place award for the Eagles tickets goes to Kurt Kinzel. The 2nd place winners of a $100 gift card are Andrew Lewandowski and David Watrous. The 3rd place winners of the $50 gift card are Al Seymour, Craig Leopold, Desi Butler, and Antoine Nguyen. Once again, thank you for your participation.
Let's kick off this week by featuring one of our valued members, Spencer Fisher, whose charismatic personality and quick-witted banter make him stand out. Spencer has been part of our community for 24 years and currently holds a Support Associate Working lead position in Dept 241 in Sterile Supply Building 12. Here's what Spencer would like our membership to know about him:
If you are interested in participating here is the information for this year.
This week's Spotlight features John Tronoski, a 2nd-generation USW member. Here's his story:
This week's spotlight shines on George Becker, an unwavering member of the Merck family since '94, currently excelling as a Support Associate in Department 207. George's tenure with the union dates back to the OCAW days, bearing witness to the transformation from PACE to the present-day USW. Marion Lightcap has been a guiding force in my journey as a new member and as a shop steward. What I truly value about the union is the profound opportunity it provides to champion what is just. I take great pride in my roles as a Shop Steward, contributing to Civil Rights Concerns, the Safety Team, and the USW Compliance Team. Guiding new members toward becoming steadfast union advocates brings me immense joy.
President Mike Gauger is asking you to take action and support H.B. 1481.
This week we are spotlighting a long term Union member Deseree Moore and here’s her story.I’ve been a union member for 38 years now. My first affiliation with a union was in 1985 with the UAW (United Auto Workers), where I worked for Ford Motor Company. In 1997, I began working at MERCK Sharp & Dohme, and I became a member of the PACE union, which is now known as the United Steelworkers (USW). What I enjoy most about being a union member is the opportunities and benefits it provides.
On behalf of Mike Gauger our Officers, Plant Committee and Executive Board members .
This week's spotlight is on a member who springs into action when most of us are heading the other way: Tom Charlton.
The Executive Board has made a decision after consulting with the USW International New Media department, and they have agreed to re-enable the comment section. There is a set of new rules and guidelines in place that will be monitored and must be followed. Please read the message below. Thank you for everyone's patience as this issue was being worked out.".
This week’s spotlight is gonna shine on our very own charismatic Vernell Butler-Lomax.
